I built my first PC!
My D3 pc from 2012 got water damage on the mobo & video card from the liquid cooling system. I got it repaired but they said it'd fail any time. I started getting CPU Fan & CPU Over Temp errors a month or 2 ago & it finally started getting single digit FPS in games.
I decided to try building for a learning experience & to save money. My first parts list was:Crucial M500 120GB SATA 2.5-Inch SSD
Crucial 16GB DDR3 1600 240 Pin Memory
INtel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad Core processor
Silverstone Tek Micro/Mini-ATX Mid-Tower case
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 video card
EVGA 500B 500W 80+ Bronze power supply
ASRock Mobo H81M-HD5
I planned to re-use a 1tb HDD, a DVD drive & Windows 7 Home Premium.
I spent a whole weekend watching youtube videos & googling around for stuff that wasn't in the directions. Mostly everything. I somehow managed to get most of it put together only to find out the video card won't sit on the mobo cuz there's a 3-pin fan connector in the way & the case is small with no room for wires.
I went to the IT dept at work asking if they had parts to trade & they said to send back the mobo & replace it with a ASRock Mobo H81M. They gave me a bigger case & I sent mine back.
Got the parts here last weekend & tried to get my power supply into that new case & it didn't fit! :( There was 2 metal tab/screw/things in the way to keep it from lining up to the power supply hole. I ended up tearing apart the damaged computer & re-using the case instead.
I was worried the front USB ports wouldn't work since there was water damage on the old mobo where they connected, but the connectors didn't get damaged. :)
I had to do most of the work outside the case since it's too hard for me to see inside.
I had a hard time closing the left case panel since the HDD has those cables coming out a little too far. I may end up getting some mounting brackets & put it in the 5 inch slot later.
